Christopher Hansard:[ the Old Religion]
can you measure time?
the time in every moment of your world?
black bamboo on distant shores wove gossamer
in the mind of Hipparchus of Rhodes
as he was inspired
by the genius
of trignometry
existing,
prescient
in the old religion
of the world

Christopher Hansard:[ Politics]
the politics of change
are not to be found in politics
as they are
but in the politic of exchange
between the soul and the world
of every man,woman and child
there is a politic in everything
if you know how to look
if you understand the legacy of Aristotle
so you understand the process of politics

Christopher Hansard:[ Solitude ]
Solitude hangs in the waves
between the inward breath
and the outward breath
in the pause
and fusion
of consciousness
released
where
mind and matter
form
after the universe was formed
all matter exploded releasing
the seeds of consciousness
evolving made all things
and so it is with you

Christopher Hansard:[Ripley's Believe It or Not]
A wise man went on holiday after getting too
wind blown on top of his mountain
and went into a Ripley’s Believe It or Not outlet
and he wandered through all the attractions
he came back to the start again and added a few of his own,
with neat handwriting on small cards
one card read
‘People are attracted to panic and confusion-believe it or not’
and another said
‘ Everything comes back to us-believe it or not’
another placed on a shelf read
‘Who is it that is reading this card, maybe, it’s not who you think it is-believe it or not’
and he placed a few more around, the last one he placed near a vending machine
and it said,
‘You are not what you buy-believe it not’
and walked off to see a museum of natural history
where he thought a few more cards might be in order
did he have the right to do that, to place all those cards
around the attractions?
People often believe that their opinions are facts-believe it or not
and that nearly everything we are taught or believe
about ourselves,others and everything else
is just an opinion-believe it or not
very few things are facts
the world in which you live is an opinion
believe it-or not

Christopher Hansard:[It All Comes Back to You]
The universe waits for you to make things happen
that’s what some believe
others say you must make things happen and there is not force other than your will
others say the universe will work in harmony with your intention
that faith is all you need
that faith is a delusion
all these are right and all of these are wrong
there is one path:
it all comes back to you
you are the heartbeat of the Sun and Moon
the sway of galatic tides
the seagull on the pier
the tears of distress and the anger of pride
you are the wisdom and wanton way
the guide to heaven and street sweeper of hell
it all comes back to you

Christopher Hansard:[ Deep]
Softly in the rush of the throng
in the timpani of the desperate ones
in the crossing of crowds on corners
in the rumours of meaning
there is a seed
planted
deep in the concrete
of sidewalk and soul
waiting

Christopher Hansard:[ Valleys and Mountains]
People
search for meaning
in between
the upheavals and highpoints
of their lives
not often seeing
that the valleys and the mountains
are opportunities for self-growth
each of us are wiser than we know
and hold innocence within us
blessed and holy

Christopher Hansard:[ Tongue]
Mankind’s greatest weapon
its weapon
of mass destruction
is the tongue
the one within our mouths
a link between thought and action
that wagging sword
that can wound a life or many forever
cause actions and impulse to be the order of the day
what do you do with yours?

Christopher Hansard:[ The Perfect Storm]
there’s a strong wind coming
there’s a strong wind coming
a perfect storm
which way it will blow
can not be predicted
there’ s a strong wind coming
no sanctuary
the strong wind that’s coming
this perfect storm
is the storm that comes from within
in well manicured gardens
tornado alley will explode
in the late night bars
icy depressions will move northwards
bringing sleet and slippery situations
the more the call for order in the outer
the greater the storm
if you seek wisdom
look to the global warming inside your head
to the pollution in your heart
to the unsung courage in your being
to your capacity for solitude and love
and the simplicity of contentment with what you have
as the place to move on from

Christopher Hansard:[ Season]
This is the coming season
where faith and reason collide
where lonely hearts spill out on to the streets and howl
where crucifixtion kits are sold in every home improvement store
and in the form of something that you really need
in the quietness of gaps that emerge due to crowds
a miracle of rebirth dwells
a season to be jolly
not in things or trinkets
or bright lights or ginger biscuits
but in
the gaps that emerge due to crowds
spatial awakening
look and see
if you want a miracle
be the one you are
